MLHS Golf Team

After two previous years of trying out for the Moses Lake High School Golf Team, Tyler made it!

Two ants sat on the grass watching Tyler dig up the course. One said to the other, “Let’s get on the ball before he kills us!”

Congrats Creesh !

I know I've posted this information before, but her picture just came out in the paper today.

Pinewood Derby Continues

The last coat of primer gets a quick brush with steel wool.
Now for the painting fun.
Kevakin picked orange after his 2 hour
color contemplation at WalMart.

Here is a closeup picture before we start sanding
again tonight.

Letter from Elder Morrison

well, well, well, just another week gone by. hopefully the next 4 go quickly. this week has been a little crazy. first, this week we had teamups with the zone leaders. we found 4 new investigators that day. that was way good. we found one a couple days later, putting us at 5 for the week, which is a good number. it was especially good because we had ice fall on thursday (it was like tiny hail...except there was like an inch and a half of it) and so we couldnt drive the car. it was like walking in sand, and it made me real tired to walk in it. we had to get out of the apartment at least though, or we would have gone crazy. friday was a little relaxed too, since the ice had melted a little bit and then frozen overnight. on saturday, we helped a friend of a member move. they moved from Gerald to Union. it actually surprised me that we did it in about 6 hours, moving out and then back in. it worked really well when we had 10 or 12 people hauling stuff.
well, it's good that the missionaries feel welcome enough around you that they call up if they are hungry. i dont feel that way about anyone around here really, especially with the economic circumstances around here. people have a little less money, and so i feel really awkward if i were to solicit a dinner appointment. i dont feel so bad if we call and schedule a lesson with a member at around 6, and they just offer to feed us. lol. but we do have a calendar we pass around and we lately have been having 3-4 a week, which is good compared to a month ago when we had 1-2. the members do alright of taking care of us though. i kinda wish they'd take care of each other though. there's so much drama here and its so small that everyone knows about everything. its really ridiculous. then we try to add to their numbers and we cant because they all go less-active. tough situation.
next weekend sounds busy. sounds like to me that ty is a big boy, and could ride with one of the other teammates and you could take coltin. but i dont know the whole situation either.
as for the pants, i got them taken back, and the money was refunded on your JCPenny card. basically i just have to do with what i have until i can lose enough weight to fit back into my stuff. i've started the low-carb diet as well as i can here. i've been doing it for almost 2 weeks. this last week i dropped 3 lbs, so i'm on a start. i would appreciate your prayers in that area. i really have to drop some weight or i'll probably lose my knees. i'm really upset i dont have the things i need to lose it either. i dont have the facilities or the time to exercise the way i need to. jumping and running are out, though we play basketball once a week with some young men. we do that on mondays. i really just need a swimming pool and the permission to go. it's really frustrating. plus if we have dinner at a members house and they have mashed potatoes with corn and bread and some meat, i have to eat all of it. so that shoots my diet for that day. lately i've been getting really really frustrated with my situation. i'm fat, have a bad companionship relationship, and i cant seem to control either. it's really frustrating me, but hopefully here in a little while we'll have a transfer. i'm also going to be talking to president turley about all this, and see what i can do to control some things.
well, i guess that's about all for this week. make sure you have family prayers every night, and you should start doing them every morning if you're not. love you all and miss you lots.
Elder Morrison

PS
i forgot to tell you about our pranks that occurred this morning. as i was in the shower, elder heath completely moved all my major furniture into weird places. my bed was in the 'keep our crap' room, my dresser was next to my desk, and my chair, keyboard, and puzzle i'm working on, was all where my bed was. annoying, but i got him back. as soon as he got in the shower, i began plotting my comeback. i got in the fridge for anything i could do, with the standing rule being that you have to clean up any mess you make while pranking. this sparked the idea "if i use something liquid, i can dump it on him in the shower and it will just go down the drain." i saw an old jar of pickles and realized that neither of us have used any of those. i dumped the juice into a cup, along with a few pickles and stormed the bathroom, dumped it on him in the shower, and ran. he didnt smell like pickles afterward though, but that's why i'm going to hide the teryaki sauce from him....

Gettin Down & Derby

It is the pinewood derby season. And our quest for Number 1 has started.
Kevakin can't go 10 min. without asking if we can work on the car!

Got Tickets will Travel

Hippie of the Family

What a great show! Hannah & Tyler (the butternuts pictured) had a wonderful time. The show started with The Waybacks at 7:30 p.m.

Then Hot Buttered Rum took the stage about 9:00 for about a 2 1/2 hour set. For my own info and in the spirit of journal keeping here is the set list: I'm Still Here, Amanda Lynn, Spider, Firefly, The Crest, Waterpocket Fold, Guns Or Butter, Always Be The Moon, Up On Cripple Creek, Honey Be, Be Kind Boys, Brain Damage > Eclipse with encore: Pay Your Dues (The Woes And The Lows). The venue was awesome and we were joined by about 400 of our closest friends.

Letter from Elder Morrison

well, sorry i didnt email yesterday...libraries are closed on presidents day. i was pretty annoyed. but this week has been a little slow. i'm kinda tired of Elder Heath, i'm not gonna lie. he's really testing my patience and he's really not well liked in the branch. things are a little difficult, but not impassable. i talked to jeanne a little while ago, but she didnt tell me she was sick. i'll have to give her a call. sounds like she needs some encouragement. things have cooled down again into the low 30's to 20's this week, but i'm sure give it a couple days and it will be 70 or something ridiculous.
sounds like everyone is getting married still. i did know that james had married nicki foresburg from the singles ward.
ty, remember when you go to the dance, if you're not in bed by midnight you probly should go home. lol, j/k. sounds like it'll be a good time. go ice skating in formals. just kidding...but maybe?
ok to answer questions,
1) pants are being taken care of as soon as i leave the library. i'm in washington, and they have a jcpenny, that way i dont have to pay for shipping.
2)work is going pretty well. we should have 3 baptisms this transfer, all in the month of march. not too many crazy awesome experiences this week, except that we're still holding on to marvin and betty ray, whom we will be teaching the stop-smoking workshop this week. Chase didnt make it to church so we have to bump his date to the 16th. as long as he gets baptized, right? Wendy is on course, and i'm glad that she has strong enough testimony that some of the things that members tell her dont scare her off. some suggestions for you. if people ask you about the temple, show them 'between heaven and earth'. dont tell investigators about the temple. let the missionaries do that. dont talk about the afterlife more than you find in preach my gospel. it just makes it really hard on the missionaries (especially during a lesson) if you bring that up.
ok, enough of my missionary preaching. i hope you guys are treating the ones in our ward well.
i got the valentine card. thank you. it bought me some food and a milkshake. we buy a milkshake in st. clair every week now because we dislike it so much. you'd be surprised what a milkshake (or concrete, or blizzard-like treat) can do for you.
good job coltin on the award. keep it up, buddy!
by the way, last week i hit 9 months. crazy...

love you all. miss you. pray for you.

Letter from Elder Morrison

well, to start off, the guy in the baptism pic is Mike White, a member that is like a Grandpa to those girls. that is why he baptized them. yesterday we confirmed them, and we got to stand in the circle. it was a good spiritual experience. Chase Maul also came to church which puts him on schedule to be baptized the 2nd of march. we set another baptismal date this week with Danielle. She is pretty well understanding things and believes that what we're teaching is true. her date is march 23rd.
and about the pants, i found out that there's a jcpenny in Washington, where we go for district meeting. so tomorrow i'm going to take them back there so i dont have to pay a shipping charge. i might be able to get a bigger size too. we'll see what i can do.
well, i got a good story for you this week. so we go to Owensville once a week because it's the border of our area and takes too many miles to go there more than once a week. this week, when we went to owensville we went to see Marvin and Betty Ray, who were the ones that said a Methodist church told them that 2 messengers of God would visit them. they began to drop us because it had been 3 weeks since we had been able to teach them anything because of schedules. as we just kept talking about other things, their son, Clint, began asking questions about our beliefs. Elder Heath had an Articles of Faith card, and started reading them to him and explaining them. he got really excited, saying "this is really cool" and if we got side tracked he'd say "hey, keep going". after we finished them, he said he wanted to come to church. at this point, we find out from Marvin and Betty, that he has always been against church, and they could never get him to go to any church, so for him to not only be talking to us, but about church, was amazing to them. they were almost dumbfounded. they agreed to take him to our church, but then they got sick. i'm convinced that Satan controls viruses. because Danielle got sick too after her commitment to come to church. anyways, we're going to go back this week, and probably teach them some more. hopefully they can make it out to church, and that Clint keeps fanning the flame for us.
transfer calls were yesterday, and just as president said before, we're staying together another transfer. only 1 person is leaving from the district, and that's our district leader, who is becoming our zone leader. our new district leader is going to be Elder Whitmore, who was my MTC comp if you remember. so i'm excited about that. Elder Anglesey is going to be a zone leader in the Cape Girardeau zone with Elder Garn, who is Elder Roholt's friend. Elder Anderson (alex) is staying in Poplar Bluff, which will make 6 months for him. this will be my first area past 3 months. weird.
things are getting a little better with Elder Heath. i'm trying to just lighten him up, and get him to relax. he's really high-strung all the time, and if i can get him to loosen up, things will work so much better. the work is stil going well though.
today it's kindof icy outside. there was freezing rain (actually just falling ice bits, that freeze together on the ground) they let school out at like 11. i have never heard of that. it was kinda weird. it's been weird weather, just like Missouri is. it'll be 70 one day and then 20 the next. you just never know. we're supposed to get snow tomorrow though.
sounds like everyone is having fun with Hockey. i wish i could come and play, or at least be able to skate here. i'm afraid i'm going to have to relearn how to skate, and it's not gonna be good. i'll just have to go to Wenatchee (not to be confused with 2atchee) during the summer to skate when i get back.
well, i guess that about wraps it up. hope you're all doing well. love you much and miss you terribly.
Try to be like Jesus,
Elder Morrison

For all of you tired of seeing hockey on our blog... well here is some more to get tired of. This was Kevakin's first tournament and first game. They lost 10-0 but he had some awesome saves. Tomorrow they play Portland and Coeur d'Alene. Yes, I will probably blog that too!

Letter from Elder Morrison

well, another week. this week was pretty good, i guess you take the good with the bad.
first off, with donna. GET "BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH"!!!!! that dvd on the 28 min. version is the best about why we have temples. we use it all the time with investigators and members that want to know more about the temple. ask the missionaries about it, and if they dont have it, ask the library or something. its really good.
this week we had combined district meeting in Chesterfield. at this meeting we have our president interviews. i learned from president turley that elder heath is doing the best he's done on his mission with me. he knows that heath is a different guy, and he doesnt know where to put him. so most likely at this point, we will be with each other for another 6 weeks. i guess that happens sometimes. transfers is the 13th, and transfer calls is on sunday.
planning on taking care of the pants today or tomorrow.
got the package and the insurance card. cut up the old one. thanks for all the stuff. it is all being used (if it hasnt been used up yet)
Alex is still in Poplar Bluff, but will probably be transferred this time around. he's been there 3 transfers, which is pretty normal. we talk about 2-3 times a week on the phone.
as far as birthdays go, i'm assuming you didnt get my card...i'm gonna stop sending them if they dont get to you. hopefully you've gotten it or will get it soon.
Julie and Sarah were baptized yesterday. it was really good. i'm really happy for them. it was a pretty crazy day yesterday though. our branch mission leader is really into football, and was ticked that we scheduled a baptism on super bowl sunday (how dare we) and then everyone in Branch council was ticked that we're planning baptisms on fast sunday, and that we should change the date we have now for 2 weeks later because they want to be able to have treats afterward. i'm really glad people here are worried about the treats rather than eternal salvation. makes me feel like i want to actually leave these people in their hands (catch the sarcasm?)
anyways, enough of my bellyaching. this week we got 4 inches of snow thursday, and today its all gone because its over 70 degrees right now....stupid missouri. it does that.
we've started to teach the members here. hopefully that keeps us sharp on our teaching skills, and it also hopefully will generate referrals. those are the ones that get baptized.
i hope you got to see President Hinckley's funeral services. we did, and i'm really glad. i did cry i a bit as they began to take the casket through the gauntlet of apostles with the music of the organ to "God be with you till we meet again". it was a really touching service. my next planner is going to be a GBH tribute.
pictures include baptism of Julie and Sarah, and also the day we spent shoveling snow. we went tracting just wanting to shovel snow instead of normal tracting. give that idea to the missionaries there. it might work.
well, nothing really to add for this week. keep close to the Lord, and He will be with you. pray, read scriptures and show up.
love you much,
Elder Morrison
